One has to be so careful about teaching. I recently taught the words “asco” (disgust) and “asqueroso” (disgusting) which refer to a dog poo type of situation. “¡Qué asco! as an exclamation means “How disgusting!”
The wonders of translation though, meant that one of my students assumed it could also be used in a “disgusted of Tunbridge Wells” context. At the next lesson she told us all a long tale of how she had been “disgusted” with her service in a shop and had kept repeating, loud and clear, “¡Qué asco!” Goodness knows what they thought in the shop, but on the other hand, by the sound of it, they probably deserved it!
