Spanish/English translation – No way!!


One of the most unexpected “false friends” I know of is one of the expressions meaning “not at all” or “no way”.  It is “en absoluto”.  I know it looks like “absolutely” but it isn’t – it means the opposite.  Not so much a false friend as a highly deceitful friend.

“¿Me creéis?”  “En absoluto”.  “Do you believe me?”  “No way”.  

Well, I’m telling you the truth!
