Spanish saying – Don’t hold your breath!


Anyone who has had more than a fleeting experience of life in Spain will have come across the awfulness of Spanish bureaucracy.    “La crisis” has just made everything worse as there is now no money to help things along.

Twice this week I’ve been told “puedes esperar sentada” (“you can wait sitting down”) for the local authority to pay up some dosh.  It’s not meant literally of course, in the same way that we are not literal when we say: “Don’t hold your breath” – but the effect is the same – waiting, waiting, waiting ….
