Con lo que está cayendo – heard all too often …

Well I presume this phrase started life as a comment about the weather.  Perhaps someone wanted to go for a walk and someone else said – you’d better take an umbrella “con lo que está cayendo”  with everything that’s falling (i.e. the rain from the sky).  However, this phrase has come to be associated with bad times and particularly the bad times that we all going through with this awful crisis.  Now it seems people are saying it every five minutes.  We can’t pay bills, have fiestas next year, invest in new buildings, employ more people …. “con lo que está cayendo”.

Let’s hope it stops “cayendo” soon and the sun comes out again, metaphorically speaking .
