Make a note!

You could make a guess at how to say “make a note” in Spanish and even be right, because we can say “anotar”, although the action of picking up a pencil and jotting something down is even more commonly expressed as “apuntar”. (Some of us do still do this, don’t we?)  That’s where the false friend comes in, because “apuntar” looks a bit like “appoint”.  However, in the event of you being “appointed” by her majesty or anyone else to some role or position the word would be “nombrar” as in “Jane ha sido nombrada bloguera del año”.
